Google Drive Review

Google Drive Review

Google Drive has been in the works for nearly five years and it looks as if it is finally here. Advanced reports are showing that Google Drive will offer free online backup storage and that it will connect with most Google products.

Value for Money:

Their free service is extremely cost friendly. As the tiers of service and storage space are fleshed out and reported to the public, we’ll be able to tell you more. However, if you are a business looking for online backup, then you may want to wait on any expectations for Google to be affordable.

Features:

Seamless integration with current Google products is one of the best features that are being offered. There may also be the ability to connect to future Google software for movies and music. The features of other Google products are very helpful. Those would include Google Maps, Docs, Google Search and Gmail. There are lots of other products that Google has developed and released for free, but lately they have been shutting down some of those projects to focus on other areas of the business. One exciting feature of Drive is the optical character recognition technology they have added. That means that customers will be able to scan images of text and the system can convert it over to digital text. It can also be used for image recognition so that every time you search for a word in your files or on the internet, images you have uploaded will be included in those search results.

Summary:

Google Drive may be a top contender for online backup in the next few years. Their starting program appears to be 5GB for free and then additional levels of online backup at a premium. The max is said to be 16 TB. The cloud storage service is designed to work with the overall Google experience. That means that if you take a pic on your phone, it will store to your drive.

Product Ideology:

Google creates interesting and innovative products and shares most of those for free. The service is predominantly a search engine, but they have also created useful applications that are used by millions daily.

Security:

Google basically has the best security in the world. They can definitely afford it. That same world class security will be in use for Google Drive.

Storage Space:

The initial 5GB are free and possibly will be ad funded. Then they are offering a 25GB and 50GB plan with monthly pricing. We will update our review as soon as we know more. Though, we have heard that 1TB will cost around $49.99 a month.

Ease Of Use:

Google Drive will be as easy to use as any other Google product. It may even make using other Google services much easier.

Customer Support:

Not much is known about how Google will support Google Drive. Business class online backup may have the option to purchase levels of support.

Google is the best and keeps getting better

Best bang for the buck. Photos integrate nicely into Drive now working great with Google sync on iphone to backup photos. Google office docs are top-notch as well.

Unreliable, slow upload, poor syncing

I have had nothing but problems with it. Syncing is buggy and extremely slow. The web interface is also very poor.

So far so good!

So far so good. I'm all "into" google so I don't mind it but I could see where it could be tricky with a bunch of different systems. Storage is cheap. 1 Tb 9.99/month.

A lot of problems...

When I use google drive my computer start to be very slow. Same for my internet connection. Syncronization doesn't work very well. With Sugarsync I'have not all those problems.

Slowest System Around

Total crap! For a company this big I was rather expecting streamlined features and ease of use. No way! Like others have mentioned, there were nothing but problems with uploading - the system just stops or crashes. It even took a few tries just to get the software installed and there was NO help as to how it worked. The screen layout is laughable, like something I once concocted under DOS - 40 years or so ago. I use Dropbox, which is a walk in the park compared to GD. The only one good thing about GD is, that it can only get better - coz it sure can't get any worse!

Only For Gmail Users

There is a problem with sharing files for those without gmail accounts. No instructions about how this can be done. Non gmail users just get a blank screen offering them to sign up with Google.

Google Drive needs work, and fast

A complete disaster unless you have a few simple files and one computer.

Too unreliable

The sync was forever crashing. I had to download an reinstall the software a number of times and had to delete and set up the google drive a number of times. Finally got fed up with it and deleted it.
